Webber International University defeated Florida College 92-84 on Nov. 3 at Conn Gymnasium in Temple Terrace, Florida, overcoming a 12-point halftime deficit in the first road game of the season. The Webber International University men’s basketball team improved to 4-0, while Florida College fell to 0-4. Webber International outscored Florida College 57-37 after halftime to complete the comeback.

Florida College led 47-35 at the break after answering Webber International’s early 8-0 advantage. The Falcons built a first-half lead as large as 16 points, but Webber International increased its defensive pressure and found its offensive rhythm after halftime. The Warriors’ second-half surge turned a double-digit deficit into an eight-point road victory.

Ashton Lovette led all scorers with a season-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers and six free throws on six attempts. He scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, driving Webber International’s offensive surge. His production helped the Warriors maintain their undefeated start despite the slow opening half.

Webber International takes control after halftime

Webber International cut into Florida College’s lead early in the second half. Lovette opened the period with a 3-pointer, Wesley Isoje followed with a basket in the paint, and Caden Huttenlocker’s jumper gave the Warriors a 52-51 lead. Florida College briefly regained the advantage before Webber International continued creating opportunities with its defense.

Kaelin Thomas then hit the go-ahead 3-pointer off an assist from Malachi Williams, putting Webber International ahead 65-64 with 9:48 remaining. J’London Bivens added to the momentum moments later by turning a steal into a layup. The Warriors eventually stretched their lead to 12 points in the second half before closing out the victory.

Balanced production fuels comeback

Isoje delivered a season-high 21 points on 10-for-16 shooting. He also contributed seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, giving Webber International production across the box score. Huttenlocker added nine points on 4-for-5 shooting.

Bivens supplied a game-high seven steals along with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Malachi Williams finished with seven assists, five points and three rebounds, while Quamar Hobbs scored 11 points. Thomas finished with five points, including the 3-pointer that put Webber International ahead during the second-half comeback.

Webber International recorded 18 steals as a team and converted Florida College’s 31 turnovers into 33 points. The Warriors also held a 42-40 advantage in points in the paint and shot 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. Those defensive numbers helped Webber International overcome its halftime deficit and protect the lead late.

What comes next

Webber International is scheduled to play at Eckerd College on Saturday, Nov. 7, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tipoff is scheduled for noon. The game will be the Warriors’ next road contest after their comeback win at Florida College.

FSB Take

Webber International’s 4-0 start now includes a road comeback built on second-half scoring and defensive disruption. The 18 steals and 33 points off turnovers show how the Warriors turned pressure into offense, while Lovette’s 20 second-half points supplied the scoring needed to erase the deficit. The next game at Eckerd College will give Webber International another opportunity to carry that road execution forward.
