Florida Memorial University defeated South Florida Bible College 83-76 in men’s basketball Oct. 29 at the FMU Wellness Center in Miami Gardens, Fla. The victory was Anthony Anderson’s first as Florida Memorial (FL) head coach and moved the team to 1-0. Florida Memorial (FL) led 47-30 at halftime before South Florida Bible College outscored it 46-36 in the second half.

Freshman Deryl Williams led Florida Memorial (FL) with 20 points in 32 minutes. He shot 8 of 15 from the field and 2 of 3 from 3-point range while adding seven rebounds and three steals. Junior Oladele Oladitan recorded his first double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Adrian Body II added eight points and led the team with 12 rebounds.

Florida Memorial (FL) scored 21 points off turnovers and received 31 points from its bench. Those contributions helped the team establish its 17-point halftime lead. South Florida Bible College reduced the deficit in the second half, but Florida Memorial (FL) held on for the victory.

Florida Memorial (FL) will play Stillman on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. in the Baptist University of Florida Tournament in Graceville, Fla. The game will be the team’s next scheduled contest. It will give Anderson and Florida Memorial (FL) another opportunity to build on the season-opening victory.

FSB Take

Florida Memorial (FL) has a 1-0 start under Anderson after combining Williams’ scoring with production from Oladitan, Body II and the bench. The team’s 21 points off turnovers and 31 bench points also provided support beyond its leading scorer. That balance will carry into the Nov. 6 matchup with Stillman.
