Saint Leo University will partner with NMDP on Thursday, October 29, to raise awareness about blood stem cell donation and explain how people can join the NMDP Registry. The outreach will include daytime tables on campus and an evening presence during the university’s Haunted Halls Halloween celebration. Students, faculty, staff, families and community members can learn more at the scheduled events.

NMDP tables will be available outside Benedict’s Coffee Shop and the campus cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The partnership will continue from 7-9 p.m. at Apartments 1 and 2 during Haunted Halls. People who cannot attend can scan the QR code on the event flyer to learn more and join the NMDP Registry.

Why registry participation matters

NMDP states that 70 percent of patients who need a blood stem cell transplant do not have a fully matched donor within their family. Those patients depend on NMDP to help find an unrelated donor. The Saint Leo outreach will give visitors an opportunity to learn how registry participation could help someone in need.

Haunted Halls details

Haunted Halls will run from 7-9 p.m. at Apartments 1 and 2 on Saint Leo University’s residential campus. The free event is open to the public and will include trick-or-treating, a haunted house, a costume contest and a pumpkin patch. Registration is not required.

Guests attending Haunted Halls can park in the 740-space parking garage beneath Jody Luihn Family Stadium. Maya Woods can provide more information about NMDP at mwoods@nmdp.org. Questions about Haunted Halls can be directed to residence.life@saintleo.edu.

FSB Take

Saint Leo’s partnership connects blood stem cell donation education with both daytime campus access and a public Halloween event. That structure gives students and campus employees an earlier opportunity to learn about the NMDP Registry, while families and community members can engage with NMDP during Haunted Halls. The QR-code option also extends access to people who cannot attend either tabling session.
