Armwood defeated Tampa Bay Tech 14-7 on Friday, Oct. 9, in one of Hillsborough County’s tightest football results of the weekend. Hillsborough County football also saw victories for Plant, Jesuit, Gaither and Berkeley Prep. Those results arrived with the FHSAA district schedule moving toward its Oct. 23 deadline. The winning margins ranged from Berkeley’s one-point overtime finish to Plant’s shutout.
Armwood 14, Tampa Bay Tech 7
Armwood scored seven points in the first quarter and seven in the third to earn the road victory. Tampa Bay Tech scored its seven points in the second quarter. The teams therefore entered halftime tied 7-7 before Armwood produced the only points of the second half. The Hawks’ third-quarter score provided the final separation in a game where each possession carried extra weight.
Plant 42, Leto 0
Plant defeated Leto 42-0 on the road. The Panthers built a 34-0 halftime lead after scoring 27 points in the second quarter. Neither team scored in the third quarter. Plant added eight points in the fourth to finish the shutout.
Jesuit 22, East Bay 7
Jesuit defeated East Bay 22-7 at home. The 15-point margin gave the Tigers a more comfortable finish than the narrow results elsewhere in the county. Jesuit is scheduled to face Freedom on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m., according to the published matchup recap. The next game gives the Tigers another opportunity to turn a solid defensive result into a consistent stretch of play.
Gaither 53, Riverview 7
Gaither defeated Riverview 53-7 behind a productive passing performance. Daniel Terry completed 12 of 16 passes for 288 yards and five touchdowns, according to the game statistics. Royce Leal-Gonzalez recorded 145 receiving yards and two touchdowns on three catches. Gaither is scheduled to face Sickles on Friday, Oct. 16.
Berkeley Prep 21, Clearwater Central Catholic 20
Berkeley Prep defeated Clearwater Central Catholic 21-20 in overtime. Clearwater Central Catholic led 14-7 at halftime before Berkeley scored seven points in the fourth quarter to tie the game. The Buccaneers then outscored the Marauders 7-6 in overtime. That one-point difference gave Berkeley the county roundup’s closest winning margin.
Regular season deadlines draw closer
The FHSAA lists Oct. 23 as the last allowable district playing date for 2026 football. Regular season games must be completed by Oct. 30. Regional quarterfinals for Classes 1A-6A are scheduled for Nov. 13. Those dates give the next few weeks added importance as programs work through their remaining schedules.
FSB Take
Armwood and Berkeley showed why finishing a close game matters just as much as building a large lead. Plant’s shutout and Gaither’s passing production gave their supporters different reasons to feel encouraged. Jesuit also turned in a clear defensive result by allowing seven points. The challenge for these programs is to carry the strongest parts of Friday’s performances into the closing weeks without letting one result become the whole story.
