Chop Robinson said he improved throughout Miami Dolphins training camp by applying coaching, listening to team captains and working to become a more complete player. Robinson discussed his development, the team’s growing brotherhood and Friday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons during his Aug. 26 media availability.
“For me, it’s just I feel like I just got better every day,” Robinson said. “And I was just taking in the coaching, just showing up every day, being the guy I could be, listening to my coaches, listening to the captains on the team and just trying to be the best I can for the team.”
Robinson emphasizes all-around development
Robinson said the new staff emphasized becoming an all-around player. That includes improving against the run while continuing to pass rush, two areas he said he worked on throughout camp. He credited Coach Clark with emphasizing hand and eye technique in run defense and said repeated practice helped those details become natural.
“For me personally, it was just being an all-around player,” Robinson said. “Like, of course, I talk about it all the time, just being able to stop the run and also pass rush.” Robinson also said he added new pass-rush techniques but would not disclose them before they appear in a game.
Miami Dolphins build team connections
Robinson said a message from Udonis Haslem about brotherhood resonated with Miami Dolphins players. He said teammates spent time getting to know one another beyond football during training camp and organized team activities, including learning about each other’s families. Robinson also cited Tyrel Dodson, whom he identified as an undrafted player, as an example of a teammate continuing to work for an opportunity.
Robinson said his relationship with Josh Uche also grew during camp as the two worked together in the pass rush. “Me and Uche definitely got real close. That’s my brother now,” Robinson said. He added that the two work off each other and that he looks forward to continuing to play alongside Uche.
Miami Dolphins set for Atlanta Falcons game
Robinson said Friday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons will give him an opportunity to face former teammate Tua Tagovailoa. Robinson said Tagovailoa was his locker mate during Robinson’s final year with the Miami Dolphins and described him as a good teammate. He also said he hopes Tagovailoa is doing well.
“I mean, for me, we still got the Falcons on Friday, so my mind is focused on them,” Robinson said. He plans to turn his attention to Miami’s first regular-season opponent after the Atlanta Falcons game.
