Bennett Hostetler hit two home runs as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp defeated the Memphis Redbirds 6-2 on Aug. 23, 2026, at AutoZone Park in Memphis. The victory gave Jacksonville four wins in the six-game series and concluded the season series between the International League teams.
Hostetler recorded his second multi-home-run game of the season. His first homer came in the fourth inning after Brayden Taylor tripled, giving Jacksonville a 4-1 lead. With two outs in the sixth, Taylor walked before Hostetler hit his second home run to extend the advantage to 6-1.
Jacksonville takes control after early Memphis run
Memphis scored first in the second inning when Brody Moore was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a wild pitch. Jacksonville took the lead for good in the third inning when Can Cannarella doubled with two outs and Jonathon Long followed with a 447-foot, two-run home run to left field. The home run was Long’s first with the Miami Marlins organization.
Luis Palacios earned the win after pitching five innings and allowing one unearned run in his fourth start for Jacksonville. Dax Fulton and Zach Pop combined with Jake Walkinshaw and Stephen Jones for four innings of one-run relief. Walkinshaw retired the next two batters after Memphis loaded the bases in the eighth, and Jones pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Memphis loaded the bases in the eighth on singles by Victor Scott II and Thomas Saggese and a walk by Leo Bernal. Cesar Prieto singled to score Scott II and set the final margin at 6-2. Josh Fleming took the loss for the Memphis Redbirds.
Jacksonville returns to VyStar Ballpark Tuesday
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp return to VyStar Ballpark Tuesday night to host the Nashville Sounds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage scheduled to begin at 6:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MLB.tv, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and espn690.com. Gates open at 6 p.m.
The game includes First Coast Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Canines and Crustaceans Dog Day. Canines may enter free when accompanied by a human companion who buys a ticket. Grip it and Rip it ticket packages include a Dugout Reserved seat and a pack of Topps Series 2 baseball cards, while $1 hot dogs will be available at designated VyStar Ballpark locations.
