The Memphis Redbirds defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 10-0 on Aug. 22 at AutoZone Park after a two-hour, seven-minute rain delay. Memphis collected 10 hits and scored in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings.
Jacksonville starting pitcher Karson Milbrandt took the loss and fell to 0-6. The Jumbo Shrimp were held scoreless in the International League matchup.
Memphis Builds Early Lead
Victor Scott II opened the scoring in the first inning after drawing a walk and advancing to third on a Colton Ledbetter single. Nolan Gorman then grounded out to drive in Scott II and give the Memphis Redbirds a 1-0 lead.
Memphis added two runs in the third inning after Noah Mendlinger singled to begin the frame and Scott II and Ledbetter followed with walks. Leo Bernal and Gorman each recorded a run-scoring groundout, extending the lead to 3-0.
A five-run fourth inning brought Milbrandt’s outing to an end. Bligh Madris walked and scored on a Ramon Mendoza double, and Scott II doubled to drive in Mendoza before Bernal hit a three-run home run. The rally pushed Memphis ahead 8-0.
Pushard Delivers Scoreless Relief
The Memphis Redbirds completed the scoring with a two-out rally in the seventh inning. Madris walked and advanced to third on a fielding error on a ball put in play by Mendoza before scoring on a wild pitch, and Mendoza later scored on a Mendlinger single.
Jacksonville reliever Matt Pushard pitched 1.2 scoreless innings and recorded two strikeouts. The series was scheduled to conclude Sunday at 2:05 p.m. ET, or 1:05 p.m. CT, with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp seeking a series win against Memphis left-hander Josh Fleming.
Fleming was listed as the scheduled starter with a 4-6 record and 3.16 ERA. Coverage was scheduled to begin at 1:50 p.m. ET on ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
