The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced three football roster moves Tuesday, one day before their first practice of 2026 training camp. The team waived rookie safety Ja’Qurious Conley with a non-football injury designation and placed defensive lineman Haggai Ndubuisi and cornerback Chase Lucas on the active/physically unable to perform list. The moves came before the start of camp.
The Buccaneers did not add a player after waiving Conley, leaving an open spot on their 91-man camp roster. Lucas and Ndubuisi continue to count against the roster limit while on active/PUP. The team can remove either player from the list and return him to practice, while the designation preserves the option of placing him on reserve/PUP during the cutdown to 53-man rosters in late August.
Ja’Qurious Conley waived by Tampa Bay
Conley signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Charlotte. He played three seasons at North Carolina before transferring to Charlotte in 2024. Conley registered 64 tackles and three interceptions in 2025, and he finished his five collegiate seasons with 171 tackles, five interceptions, 2.0 sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Chase Lucas, Haggai Ndubuisi placed on active/PUP
Lucas was originally a seventh-round draft pick out of Arizona State by the Detroit Lions in 2022. He played in 18 games for Detroit over the following two seasons and recorded six tackles before signing with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2024 offseason. Lucas spent the 2024 season on San Francisco’s practice squad, then made the active roster in 2025 and played in 15 games, recording nine tackles, one pass defensed and one quarterback hit.
Ndubuisi first participated in the International Player Pathway Program in 2022 and was allocated to the Arizona Cardinals as an offensive tackle. He played in one preseason game for Arizona before being released in August, then returned to the NFL through the program the following season as a defensive lineman with the Denver Broncos. Ndubuisi spent the 2023 season on Denver’s practice squad before signing with Washington in 2024 and spending that season on the Commanders’ practice squad.
