De’Von Achane’s production declined after halftime
De’Von Achane recorded 106 yards from scrimmage in the first half as the Miami Dolphins found success on the ground and through the air. He did not score a touchdown, marking only the third time this season he failed to reach the end zone. His production changed sharply after halftime.
A 21-yard reception by Achane was overturned after a Baltimore Ravens challenge. That reduced his second-half total to four yards from scrimmage as Miami finished the half with 90 total yards. The change in production contributed to the Dolphins’ offensive struggles after the break.
Miami left scoring opportunities unanswered
The Miami Dolphins defense held the Baltimore Ravens to four first downs, 30 rushing yards and one conversion on six third-down attempts in the first half. Miami also put together two 10-play drives that covered 57 and 67 yards. Neither possession produced points.
A false start on a fourth-and-1 play preceded Riley Patterson’s missed field goal, which went wide right. Miami later reached the red zone, but Tua Tagovailoa’s fourth-and-2 pass sailed over Achane. The Dolphins also committed three turnovers, including two fumbles and one interception.
Miami lost the turnover battle for the sixth time in nine games this season. Head Coach Mike McDaniel said the missed opportunities created a major momentum swing.
“It’s always dangerous when you are ‘theoretically’ beating a team and you don’t have a lead. Or it’s very dangerous just because it ebbs and flows in the National Football League,” Head Coach Mike McDaniel said. “Basically, there was a multitude of failures in a critical situation on that one and I was super confident that that wouldn’t be the case, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken that risk. But a failure to execute a look that I think we can resulted in no points, and that’s a gigantic momentum swing.”
Jaylen Waddle continued as Miami’s top receiver
Jaylen Waddle finished with six catches for 82 yards. A tripping penalty nullified a 37-yard reception, but Waddle still entered the weekend with 586 receiving yards, seventh among NFL receivers. He also ranked second among all wide receivers in EPA per target since Week 5.
In five weeks as the Miami Dolphins’ top receiver, Waddle had 410 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His expanded role followed Tyreek Hill being lost for the season with a knee injury. The source identified Waddle as one of the leading statistical takeaways from the loss.
