Robin Muenst scored to tie the match in the second half, but the No. 13 Lynn University men’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Florida Southern in Sunshine State Conference action Saturday in Lakeland, Fla.
Florida Southern opened the scoring at 14:57 when Darcy Moffat found the net off assists from Tim Baierlein and Payton Rausch. Lynn University earned three corner kicks in the first half but entered halftime trailing 1-0.
Lynn University Answers After Halftime
Lynn University increased its pressure after the break. Luan Barroso Rennstich forced a save 49 seconds into the second half, and the Fighting Knights continued creating chances before Muenst leveled the match at 53:34.
Muenst finished with two shots, both on target. Dominik N’Gatie and Fabian Vyhnalek added attempts during the four minutes after the equalizer, but Florida Southern regained the lead at 59:55 when Joao Lopes scored off an assist from Hector Oliver.
Muenst nearly scored again in the 70th minute, but Florida Southern goalkeeper Ricardo Marques stopped his shot on frame. Lynn University continued to press late, with Barroso Rennstich forcing another save at 88:28 before Fabian Wagner sent the final attempt wide with 1:19 remaining.
Lynn University Controls Shot Volume
Lynn University outshot Florida Southern 14-7 overall and held an 11-5 advantage in second-half shots. The Fighting Knights placed five shots on goal compared with four for Florida Southern and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Barroso Rennstich led Lynn University with five shots and three shots on goal. Vyhnalek finished with three shots, while Julian Marcos recorded two saves in 90 minutes.

The loss moved Lynn University to 2-1-3 overall and 1-1-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Fighting Knights remain on the road for their next conference match.
Lynn University will face Florida Tech on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. in Sunshine State Conference action.
