Jupiter Hammerheads infielder Echedry Vargas was selected as the Florida State League Player of the Month for August, Minor League Baseball announced Sept. 3, 2026.
Vargas led the league in eight offensive categories during the month. He hit .386 with a .436 on-base percentage and an .867 slugging percentage while leading the Florida State League in hits (32), total bases (72), doubles (seven), home runs (11), RBIs (30), slugging percentage (.867) and OPS (1.303).
Vargas recorded 11 multi-hit games in 22 August games and finished the month on a nine-game hitting streak. His 72 total bases led the league by 24, according to the Jupiter Hammerheads. On Aug. 26, he hit his 25th home run of the season, breaking Marcell Ozuna’s 14-year-old Jupiter franchise record.
Vargas Adds to Jupiter’s 2026 Award Run
Vargas is the third Jupiter Hammerheads player to win a Minor League Baseball monthly award in 2026. Manuel Genao won Florida State League Pitcher of the Month for May, and Andres Valor won Florida State League Player of the Month for July.
Jupiter Hammerheads outfielder Jake McCutcheon previously won Florida State League Player of the Week on June 14. The Jupiter Hammerheads also clinched their first playoff berth since 2023 by winning the Florida State League East Division first-half title in June.
In 100 games for Jupiter this season, Vargas has 27 home runs, 91 RBIs and 23 doubles. The 23-year-old is in his second season with Single-A Jupiter, his third season in Single-A and his fifth professional season.
Vargas is from Azua, Dominican Republic. He originally signed with the Texas Rangers as an international free agent on Jan. 15, 2022, and was traded to the Marlins organization on Dec. 11, 2024, in exchange for infielder Jake Burger.
