Carly Brodsky made three saves and recorded a shutout as Florida Southern College women’s soccer played Embry-Riddle to a 0-0 draw Wednesday, Sept. 9, in Lakeland, Fla. Florida Southern entered the match with a 2-0-3 record, while Embry-Riddle entered at 4-0-2. Both teams finished with three shots on goal.
Florida Southern outshot Embry-Riddle 11-7 and earned all seven corner kicks. The Moccasins held a 7-3 advantage in shots at halftime after producing seven first-half attempts and four corner kicks. The match remained scoreless through the final whistle.
Florida Southern creates first-half chances
Kyleigh Cilento took the first shot in the sixth minute, while Georgina Spraggon, Ellie Dossantos and Isabella Payne added attempts during the opening stretch. Dossantos put a shot on goal in the 28th minute, and Frankie Gatien followed with another shot on frame in the 32nd minute. Brodsky kept Embry-Riddle scoreless with a save on Lauryn Mateo in the 36th minute.
Dossantos tied for the team lead with two shots and put one on goal. Payne and Cilento also had two shots each. Florida Southern carried the 7-3 shot advantage into halftime with the match still scoreless.
Brodsky preserves shutout after halftime
Brodsky stopped shots by Lisa Elowsson at 48:55 and Berglind Thrastardottir at 50:18. Another Embry-Riddle shot hit the left woodwork before Florida Southern generated three corner kicks from 59:09 to 60:08. Ava Hackworth and Cilento added shots during the second-half push.
Brinley Beorlegui put a shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but Florida Southern goalkeeper Stella Roane made the save. Haydn Ealey missed high in the 88th minute as Florida Southern continued to look for a breakthrough. Brodsky played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with the shutout.
Florida Southern travels to USC Aiken
Florida Southern College women’s soccer next plays at USC Aiken on Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the USCA Soccer Facility in Aiken, S.C. The match is Florida Southern’s next game.
