New College of Florida Volleyball lost 3-1 to No. 25 Southeastern University on Sept. 9 at The Furnace in Lakeland. New College of Florida won the opening set before Southeastern University took the next three in a match that featured a 39-37 second-set finish. The loss moved New College of Florida to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in Sun Conference play.
Second set decides tight match
New College of Florida opened with 12 kills and one attacking error while hitting .379 in the first set. The team won 25-22 to take an early lead. Southeastern University answered in the second set, which included 21 ties and 11 lead changes, and won 39-37 after New College of Florida recorded 25 kills.
Southeastern University carried the momentum into the third set and won 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set included seven ties and two lead changes as New College of Florida tried to extend the match. Southeastern University closed out the victory with a 25-22 fourth-set win.
Telecka leads New College of Florida
Wiktoria Telecka led New College of Florida with 21 kills, six total assists and two service aces. Madison Goin added 17 kills while hitting .271, and Soraya Nacero recorded 12 kills, 28 digs and a team-high three service aces. New College of Florida hit .224 for the match, while Southeastern University hit .203.
Addison Phillippe recorded 56 assists and 19 digs, while Khalia Horta also finished with 28 digs. Jessica McKee contributed six kills while hitting .333 and added six total blocks. New College of Florida will return home Saturday to host Florida Memorial University at 2 p.m. at Bradenton Christian School as Sun Conference play continues.
