Inter Miami CF has signed defender Daniel Sumalla, a rising star from their own Academy, to a First Team contract that runs through the end of the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with club options extending through the 2027 to 2029 MLS seasons. The 19-year-old central defender officially became the 14th player graduated from the Inter Miami CF Academy to secure a contract with the club’s First Team.
Sumalla has already gained valuable professional experience with Inter Miami II in the MLS NEXT Pro league. He made his professional debut in May 2025, starting in a match against Philadelphia Union II. Over that inaugural season, Sumalla was a defensive mainstay, featuring in all 17 matches for Inter Miami II. He continued his consistent play in 2026, appearing in 10 additional games with the MLS NEXT Pro side.
Born in Miami, Florida, Sumalla spent much of his early childhood in Catalonia, Spain, having moved there at the age of one. He returned to the United States in 2018 and developed through local club programs before joining Inter Miami CF’s Academy U-17 squad in 2024. His rapid progression saw him move up to the U-19 team in 2025 before earning promotion to Inter Miami II, reflecting his swift rise through the club’s developmental ranks.
