Ave Maria University women’s soccer defeated Talladega (AL) 3-1 on Sept. 7 in Talladega, Alabama, completing a two-game Alabama road trip. The victory improved Ave Maria (FL) to 3-1 on the season.
Claire Wrobleski opened the scoring in the sixth minute with an assist from Ariana Sebion Calvesio. The goal was Wrobleski’s fourth of the season. Talladega tied the match in the 21st minute when Amelia Tiggs scored.
Julia Hyland put Ave Maria back in front six minutes into the second half with an unassisted goal. It was the first game-winning goal of Hyland’s career. Cydnee Butler added an insurance goal in the 87th minute on an assist from Marissa Weber, giving the senior from Naples three goals this season and four in her career.
Emma Schweitzer made four saves for Ave Maria. The team is scheduled to play an exhibition against NCAA Division II Barry on Friday, Sept. 11, before hosting the Florida National Conquistadors on Sept. 19 for its first official home match of the season. Both matches were scheduled to be streamed live on the Sun Digital Network.
