Saint Leo University Lions junior Virgilio Escala was named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Sept. 8.
The native of Panama helped the Saint Leo University Lions go 2-0 in nonconference play during the week. Escala recorded two goals and three assists while contributing to victories over Emmanuel and Mars Hill.

In a 3-2 victory over Emmanuel, Escala assisted Luis Gaitan on the opening goal. He then scored in the 63rd minute to give the Saint Leo University Lions a 2-1 advantage.
Escala assisted Gaitan on the opening goal in a 3-1 victory over Mars Hill. He also assisted Juan Jimenez in the 48th minute before scoring the insurance goal that gave the Lions a 3-1 lead.
Escala is the first Saint Leo University Lions player to receive the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor since 2022.
Saint Leo University Lions host Florida Southern
The Saint Leo University Lions will host Florida Southern in a nonconference men’s soccer game Thursday, Sept. 10. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Saint Leo, Fla.
