The Pensacola Blue Wahoos lost 4-1 to the Columbus Clingstones on Thursday at Synovus Park after a power outage limited Eliazar Dishmey to one scoreless inning. The defeat was Pensacola’s fourth consecutive loss following a 19-3 stretch. With nine regular-season games remaining, the Blue Wahoos’ division lead over Columbus decreased to 4.5 games, while their magic number to clinch the second-half South Division title remained at five.
Dishmey opened the game with a 1-2-3 first inning before an area power outage affected the lights and scoreboard in the top of the second. Play resumed after a 90-minute delay, but Dishmey did not return. Jaydenn Estanista took over and was charged with the loss after Columbus scored twice in the inning.
The Clingstones took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch before Luke Waddell brought home another run with a sacrifice fly. Pensacola answered in the third inning when Payton Green hit a solo home run against Shay Schanaman, cutting the deficit to one run. Columbus added to its lead with Eric Hartman’s RBI single in the fifth inning.
Dixon Williams hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give the Clingstones a 4-1 advantage. Tyler LaPorte closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning and earned the save. Schanaman earned the win, while Estanista took the loss.
Pensacola had at least one runner reach base in all nine innings but hit into three double plays and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Blue Wahoos could not produce another run after Green’s home run. The loss kept their magic number at five with the division lead narrowed to 4.5 games.
