Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s volleyball defeated Lewis 3-1 before falling 3-0 to No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul on Sept. 4 at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colo. Every team in Palm Beach Atlantic University’s pool finished 1-1, and Palm Beach Atlantic University placed third after tiebreakers.
“We played really well today against two great teams,” Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s volleyball head coach Jeff Huebner said. “Our program learns and improves so fast, and we continue to see great volleyball play. Juliana and Katie ran incredibly efficient offense against great blockers and were terrific leaders for us today. I was really impressed with Kaelynn and Brighten in their versatility for us. Unfortunately we just could not find enough defense against CSP to slow them down, despite serving and hitting really well. Can’t wait to play again tomorrow and we are so grateful for this opportunity.”
Palm Beach Atlantic University defeats Lewis
Palm Beach Atlantic University won the sets against Lewis 25-11, 15-25, 25-22 and 25-23. Palm Beach Atlantic University finished with 52 kills, seven service aces and no receiving errors, while Lewis recorded 41 kills and no service aces. Brighten Sedmack led Palm Beach Atlantic University with 17 kills while hitting .364.
Juliana Imbuzeiro recorded 23 assists and four digs. Sofia Augusto added 16 digs and three assists, while Renee Direny finished with five total blocks, including two solo blocks, and five kills.
No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul wins second match
No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul won the sets against Palm Beach Atlantic University 25-21, 25-23 and 33-31. Palm Beach Atlantic University recorded 53 kills, a .281 hitting percentage and 53 digs, while Concordia-St. Paul hit .377 with 54 kills. Palm Beach Atlantic University’s 53 kills marked a season high.
Sydney Corbett led Palm Beach Atlantic University with a season-high 21 kills and added seven digs. Sofia Augusto recorded 18 digs and five assists, while Katie Silcott posted 23 assists and nine digs. Kaelynn Sims contributed nine kills on a .333 hitting percentage, three block assists and an ace.
Palm Beach Atlantic University was scheduled to play Bentley in a bronze-bracket match at 11 a.m. The winner was scheduled to face the winner of Regis and Anderson.
