Sydney Corbett led Palm Beach Atlantic University Women’s Volleyball with 22 kills against Bentley and 14 against Anderson (SC) on Sept. 5 at the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colorado. She also was named to the all-tournament team after Palm Beach Atlantic University split its two matches. The team defeated Bentley in five sets before falling to Anderson (SC) in three sets.
Palm Beach Atlantic University defeated Bentley 3-2 by scores of 24-26, 27-25, 21-25, 25-19 and 15-13. Corbett posted a season-high 22 kills, 25.5 points, five total blocks and nine digs. Sofia Augusto added a season-high 24 digs and six assists, while Ava McIntyre recorded 11 kills and a season-high 15 digs.
Katie Silcott had a team-high and season-high 25 assists against Bentley, along with seven digs. Simi Kapustova recorded a season-high five blocks, and Juliana Imbuzeiro had an ace during the second set. Palm Beach Atlantic University finished the match with 59 kills, nine service aces and 66 digs.
Anderson (SC) defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 3-0, winning 25-18, 26-24 and 25-22. Palm Beach Atlantic University recorded 38 kills and a .162 hitting percentage, while Anderson (SC) had 50 kills and hit .308. Corbett added 14 kills, hit .371 and had six digs, giving her at least 14 kills in three consecutive matches.
McIntyre had 12 kills, seven digs and one block assist against Anderson (SC). Silcott recorded a team-high 20 assists and eight digs, extending her streak of at least 20 set assists to three consecutive games, while Augusto had 12 digs and seven assists. Corbett’s tournament performance earned her a place on the Colorado Premier Challenge all-tournament team.
“Sydney [Corbett] had a great tournament,” Palm Beach Atlantic University head coach Jeff Huebner said. “I am super proud of the way that she competed. We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and can’t wait to get back home for the Bash!”
Palm Beach Atlantic University Women’s Volleyball home opener
Palm Beach Atlantic University will host UIndy on Friday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. at Rubin Arena for its home opener. The match will be the team’s first home contest of the season. UIndy is the scheduled opponent.
