The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp lost 2-1 to the Syracuse Mets on Sunday night at VyStar Ballpark despite recording 15 strikeouts. Syracuse scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to take the series finale.
Syracuse opened the scoring in the second inning when Hayden Senger singled home Jose Ramos. A fielder’s choice and a wild pitch put Ramos on second before Senger delivered the run-scoring hit.
Jacksonville answered in the bottom of the inning when Kemp Alderman hit a solo home run, his 17th of the season, to tie the game at 1.
After four scoreless innings, Syracuse moved back in front in the seventh. Zack Short and Ronny Mauricio singled, and Nick Morabito walked to load the bases before Eric Wagaman hit a sacrifice fly that scored Short for a 2-1 lead.
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Begin Road Series Tuesday
Jacksonville was listed at 59-59 overall and 17-27 in International League play. Syracuse was listed at 59-60 overall and 21-23 in league play.
Following an off day Monday, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are scheduled to begin a six-game series against the Memphis Redbirds Tuesday at AutoZone Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and compete in the International League. The team won the 2025 International League and Triple-A National Championships.
