The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp lost 10-2 to the Gwinnett Stripers on Thursday night at VyStar Ballpark despite collecting eight hits.
Gwinnett scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the second to build a 7-0 lead. David McCabe hit a solo home run in the first, while Rowdy Tellez doubled home a run during the second-inning rally. The Stripers added their eighth run in the third inning, scored again in the sixth and completed the scoring with their 10th run in the seventh.
Jim Jarvis drove in Jose Azocar with a double in the third inning and later hit a sacrifice fly that scored Azocar in the seventh. Lizandro Espinoza drove in two runs with a second-inning single, and McCabe added a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Gwinnett entered the game with a 73-68 overall record and a 35-32 mark in International League play.
Jacksonville scores twice
Jacksonville got on the board in the seventh inning. Brayden Taylor singled and advanced to third on Logan Driscoll’s base hit before Johnny Olmstead hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor. Taylor and Driscoll each recorded a multi-hit game, according to the source headline.
Taylor added a solo home run in the ninth inning, but the Jumbo Shrimp could not overcome the early deficit. Jacksonville entered the game with a 70-70 overall record and a 28-38 International League record.

Jacksonville and Gwinnett continue their series Friday at 7:05 p.m. at VyStar Ballpark. Jacksonville will start right-hander Karson Milbrandt, listed at 0-7 with an 8.67 ERA, while Gwinnett will counter with right-hander Cedric De Grandpre, listed at 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA.
