The Biloxi Shuckers defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 9-2 on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium, earning their first victory over Pensacola since July 19. Biloxi broke open the game with four runs against the Pensacola bullpen and added four more in the ninth inning.
Eric Bitonti put Biloxi ahead with a first-inning sacrifice fly, but Connor Caskenette tied the game with an RBI single that scored Aiva Arquette. Pensacola starter Alex Williams completed 3.0 innings, allowing one unearned run and one hit while striking out five. Biloxi starter Bishop Letson earned the win after pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four hits and one run with nine strikeouts.
The Shuckers moved in front against Justin Storm and Mason Vinyard in the fifth and sixth innings. Braylon Payne hit an opposite-field solo home run in the fifth, and Mike Boeve followed with a three-run home run in the sixth. Ethan O’Donnell drove in Pensacola’s second run with a run-scoring single in the eighth inning.
Biloxi added four runs in the top of the ninth on hits by Jesus Made, Josh Adamczewski, Eric Bitonti and Jheremy Vargas. Juan Reynoso was unable to finish the inning, and Jack Sellinger entered and got Darrien Miller to fly out to right. Travis Smith and Ryan Birchard combined to record the final eight outs for the Shuckers.
Biloxi improved to 64-66 overall and 29-36 in the second half, while Pensacola fell to 77-56 overall and 41-23 in the second half. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
