The Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated the Biloxi Shuckers 6-3 on Sunday night in Biloxi, Miss., completing a six-game sweep and a perfect weeklong road trip. The sweep was Pensacola’s first six-game sweep since 2023. The Blue Wahoos remained four games ahead of the Montgomery Biscuits with 24 games remaining in the regular season.
Brandon Compton put Pensacola ahead in the third inning with a three-run homer over the right field videoboard. The homer was Compton’s 17th in a Blue Wahoos uniform this season, tying him with Dillon Lewis for the team lead. Compton joined the Blue Wahoos on June 30.
Adrian Santana and Aiva Arquette also drove in runs during the third inning, with Santana adding another RBI single in the seventh. Compton drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning for additional insurance. The Blue Wahoos are pursuing a second-half South Division title.
Joey Volini earns first Double-A win
Joey Volini earned his first Double-A win after pitching seven innings of three-run ball on 83 pitches. The outing established a career high for Volini, who had never pitched beyond six innings in his professional career. He became the first Pensacola starter since Luis Palacios in 2023 to pitch into the eighth inning.
Andrew Fischer and Mike Boeve each hit solo homers against Volini. Colby Martin retired all three batters he faced in the eighth inning, and Holt Jones recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fifth save in five save opportunities.
Biloxi starter Jaron DeBerry allowed four unearned runs over five innings and took the loss. The defeat extended the Biloxi Shuckers’ franchise-record losing streak to 11 games. The Shuckers’ loss followed a four-run third inning for the Blue Wahoos.
Blue Wahoos return home Tuesday
After an off day, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos are scheduled to begin a six-game home series against the Knoxville Smokies on Tuesday night. The Knoxville Smokies are the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. First pitch at Blue Wahoos Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT, with the live broadcast scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on YurView, Bally Sports Live, BlueWahoos.com/radio or the MiLB app.
