The Buccaneers signed cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting to their practice squad Wednesday, filling the final opening on the 17-man unit.
Murphy-Bunting, who played his first four NFL seasons with the Buccaneers, returns after stops with the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals. The Buccaneers also signed tight end C.J. Dippre and safety Silas Walters, while releasing tight end Devin Culp and safety Rashad Wisdom to create room.
Murphy-Bunting returns to Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers selected Murphy-Bunting out of Central Michigan in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 39th overall pick. He started 10 games and led the team with three interceptions as a rookie. In 2020, he started 13 regular-season games and four postseason games.
Murphy-Bunting became the first Buccaneer to intercept a pass in three consecutive playoff games. The Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV.
After four seasons with the Buccaneers, Murphy-Bunting signed with the Tennessee Titans as an unrestricted free agent in 2023. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2024 and started all 15 games in which he played, matching his career high with three interceptions. He tore his ACL on the practice field in May of the following year and spent the 2025 season on injured reserve.
Murphy-Bunting has played in 82 games with 65 starts, recording 297 tackles, 11 interceptions and 34 passes defensed. In six postseason games, he has added 29 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defensed.
Buccaneers add Dippre and Walters
Dippre attended training camp with the New England Patriots before being waived during Sunday’s roster cutdowns. He played in three preseason games, making two starts and catching two passes for 21 yards. Dippre signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama last year and appeared in two games during his rookie season.
Dippre caught 65 passes for 782 yards and three touchdowns in 52 collegiate games at Alabama and Maryland.
Walters signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie out of Miami (OH) in May before being waived Sunday. He played in all three of Baltimore’s preseason games and recorded nine tackles, an interception and two special-teams tackles.
Walters played in 40 games at Miami (OH), recording 200 tackles, three interceptions, 24 passes defensed, 2.0 sacks and two fumble recoveries. He earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors last fall.
Murphy-Bunting and Walters are two of five defensive backs on the Buccaneers’ 17-man practice squad.
